About Part-Time Military CHAPPS

Part-Time Military CHAPPS is a system designed for soldiers who have a 24/7 duty responsibility but work on a part-time basis. Their pay is broken down into MUTAs (Multiple Unit Training Assemblies). In part-time military service, soldiers are required to work 4 MUTAs, where each MUTA represents 1 day of work. The 4 MUTAs typically cover a two-day weekend, which equates to 2 months of work.

How It Works

Occasionally, soldiers may be required to work a MUTA 5, which consists of working an extra day, making the total 2 months and 1 day. In this scenario, the employee comes in to work on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and is released on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Part-Time Military CHAPPS allows soldiers to serve in a more flexible capacity while still fulfilling their duty to be available 24/7, as needed.

  • Soldiers are responsible for 24/7 hours per fiscal work week.
  • Pay is broken down into MUTAs (Multiple Unit Training Assemblies).
  • Part-time military employees work 4 MUTAs, which are equal to 4 regular military days of pay for a two-day weekend.
  • Sometimes soldiers work a MUTA 5 system, which includes Friday at 7:00 p.m. and is released Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
